Local Testing - Overview

Test your non-public applications using Local Testing

Local testing allows you to evaluate the accessibility of your mobile applications that interact with or retrieve data from internal servers, local servers, or resources that are not publicly accessible. This includes applications hosted on internal networks, behind firewalls, or accessible only through a VPN. Using BrowserStack’s real mobile devices gives you insight into how users of all abilities experience your application in its intended environment.

How to enable Local Testing?

To use Local Testing, you need to install the BrowserStack Local app or run the Local binary. For instructions, see Set up Local Testing.

Why do you need to install BrowserStack Local app or run the binary?

BrowserStack real mobile devices can access your publicly-hosted mobile applications directly. However, to access your non-public mobile applications, the BrowserStack infrastructure requires network tunneling to access the private network where the application is present.

The Local Testing feature in App Accessibility creates a network tunnel between your private network and the BrowserStack infrastructure. This allows App Accessibility to access the non-public test applications hosted in your internal environments. To create this network tunnel, the Local app or binary needs to be installed on your local system that has access to the non-public applications.
