Images assisted test
Identify accessibility issues related to the use of images in web content.
Users who rely on assistive technologies may have difficulty interacting with or consuming information presented through images. To ensure accessibility, it is essential that all images on your website include the appropriate accessibility attributes. The Images Assisted Test helps identify and validate these attributes, ensuring compliance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
The Images Assisted Test checks for the following accessibility properties:

Alt text
Verifies whether all simple images contain meaningful alt text. -
Decorative images
Checks that decorative images include therole
attribute and excludes them accordingly. -
Informative images
Verifies that simple images do not have embedded information. -
Complex images
Ensures that images conveying detailed information have both meaningful short and long alt text.
Steps to run and review an images elements assisted test
Before you run an images assisted test, install the BrowserStack Accessibility Toolkit.
Start the test
To start an images assisted test:
- Launch BrowserStack Accessibility Toolkit.
- In the Assisted Test tile, click Select test.
- In the Select test type menu, select the Images test type.
The assisted test detects and displays all images on the page. - The test verifies whether any images were missed. Select Yes or No to confirm.
- If you select Yes, the assisted test will display a screen where you can manually select the missed images. For information on how to do so, go to step 2.
- If you select No, the test will display a page with the detected images where you can exclude specific images from the test. For information on how to do so, go to step 3. If no images are detected, the test will exit.
Include missed images
In the Select any remaining images step, select the images or elements that the test failed to detect:
- From the list of elements, click on the images or elements that you want to mark as an image.
- Alternatively, you can use the DOM tree to select a specific section. By default, mouse selection is enabled.
- Click Next to proceed with the test.
Exclude images from testing
In the exclude images step, remove any images that you do not want to test:
- From the list of detected images, unselect images that you want to exclude.
If you unselect all the images, the test will exit. - Click Next to proceed with the test.
Identify decorative images
In the Select all images that are decorative in nature step, select the images that are purely decorative and do not convey critical or relevant information:
- From the list of images, select the decorative images. Ensure you do not select images that function as links, buttons, or provide meaningful content.
- Click Next to proceed with the test.
Review non-decorative images
In the Review non-decorative images step, the test prompts you to answer a series of questions to review each non-decorative image.
- For each image, answer the questions to categorize and review it.
- Click Submit review to proceed to the next image.
After reviewing all non-decorative images, the test will display the identified issues. Click the component to view the issue details and recommendations on how to fix them.
Save test results
Once the report is generated, follow these steps to save or share it:
- Click Save & end test.
- Enter a report name and click Save.
- Access the report through the Accessibility Testing Dashboard or download it as a CSV file.
